Professional Career & Mini Bio
After graduating from Boğaziçi University Department of Economics in 1991, Aylin Seçkin received her Master’s degree in European Economics from Université Libre de Bruxelles with a Jean Monnet scholarship between 1991-92, and her Ph.D. in Economics from Carleton University (Canada) in 1999.
Dr. Seçkin Georges worked at the CIRANO Research Center – University of Montreal as a post-doctoral researcher, and at Mount Allison University (Canada) as an Assistant Professor. She returned to Türkiye in 2001 and joined the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul Bilgi University. She received her full Professorship in macroeconomics in 2015. She was a Visiting Professor at the University of California – Berkeley in 2016-2017 and at ETH Zurich in the Summer of 2006. Dr. Seçkin Georges continued her education and obtained a Master’s degree in Digital Marketing from Istanbul Bilgi University in 2021. Dr. Seçkin Georges left Istanbul Bilgi University in 2022. She joined the Department of Economics at the University of Ottawa, Canada, as a Visiting Professor in 2023.
Dr. Seçkin Georges published extensively on the economics of art and culture, the economics of sports, and on the economic analyses of population aging and demography. Her academic work appeared in Empirical Economics, Economics Letters, Journal of Cultural Economics, Economics Bulletin, Science, Economic Modelling, Applied Financial Economics, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, and Scientometrics, among others. Dr. Seçkin Georges’ co-authored work “Is low fertility really a problem? Population aging, dependency, and consumption” appeared in Science in 2014. Dr. Aylin Seçkin Georges also authored a book, “The Economy of the Arts” in 2021, published (in Turkish) by Hayalperest Publishing in Türkiye.
Professor Aylin Seçkin Georges taught undergraduate and graduate courses on International Trade Theory and Policy, Monetary Theory and Policy, Sports Economics, Economics of Arts and Culture, and Internet (Startup) Economics. She has a broadcast series called “The Economy of Everything” on FluTV (a YouTube channel). She is also a co-Founder of Forsico, (a Turkish startup on communications software).
