Professional Career & Mini Bio
Professor Dr. Nicolas Rouiller teaches Corporate & Business Law at Masters’ Level at Business School Lausanne (BSL). He completed his law degree at the University of Lausanne in 1997 and his doctoral thesis at Basel University in 2001.
After having worked in courts of justice and in a research institute on intellectual property, Prof. Dr. Rouiller started to practice the bar as an attorney-at-law in Switzerland and became a partner in a law firm in 2003. In 2018, he co-founded the law firm SwissLegal Rouiller & Associés Avocats SA, bringing the group of law firms SwissLegal (until then present in 10 German-speaking locations in Switzerland) in the French-speaking part of Switzerland (Lausanne, Geneva, Fribourg).
In parallel to his professional practice before courts of justice and arbitral tribunals as counsel or arbitrator, he has been teaching commercial law in Switzerland since 2003 and in Russia from 2005 to 2021. He has published more than 20 books on contracts, corporate and financial law since 2000, as well as over 80 scientific articles and reports in international legal conferences. Since 2021, he is also deputy judge in an intercantonal Court, competent to rule on disputes related to state licenses in the lottery and gambling industry in Switzerland. He is also occasionally working as an expert for international organizations like OECD and UNO in relation to legal and economic matters (e.g. the effects of coercive measures, usually called sanctions, or the challenges raised by new means of payments, like cryptocurrencies). His areas or practice are diverse but focused on complex cases in economic matters, while it is noteworthy that (as of January 2025) 28 appeals that he filed with the Swiss Supreme Court were upheld.
